Alcohol Poisoning Kills 13 in Kuwait
The ministry's statement on X revealed that since Saturday, it had responded to 63 cases of alcohol poisoning. The victims suffered varying degrees of toxicity, with some requiring urgent intensive care, including 31 individuals on ventilators. Fifty-one patients also underwent critical kidney dialysis, while 21 victims experienced permanent blindness or significant vision impairment.
"All the poisoned individuals are of Asian nationalities," the ministry stated.
Authorities are maintaining close monitoring of the cases, with ongoing coordination to ensure all necessary medical assistance is provided. The public has been urged to report any suspected poisoning immediately to hospitals or hotlines.
A Kuwait's Al-Rai source noted that a special security team was assembled to investigate the incidents. The probe revealed that all victims had purchased the contaminated alcohol from vendors in the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area of Farwaniya Governorate, who were reportedly of Asian descent.
In response, local authorities arrested 10 suspects during raids on the premises linked to the sales of the tainted beverages.
Alcohol remains strictly prohibited in Kuwait, and any illegal production or importation of alcoholic beverages is met with severe penalties, including imprisonment.
