Kuwait, Bahrain Under Attack as Missiles, Drones Intercepted
The Kuwaiti army announced on X that its General Staff had confirmed that "any explosions that may be heard are the result of air defense systems intercepting hostile targets," as its forces worked to neutralize what officials described as active aerial threats.
"The public is urged to adhere to safety and security instructions issued by the relevant authorities," the military said.
Simultaneously, Bahrain's Interior Ministry took to X to issue an urgent public alert, confirming that warning sirens had been activated across the island nation, home to the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet.
"The siren has been sounded," the ministry announced, adding that "citizens and residents are urged to remain calm and head to the nearest safe place."
Saturday's incidents mark a dangerous new flashpoint in a regional security crisis that has been steadily deteriorating since late February, when U.S. and Israeli forces launched coordinated airstrikes against Iran — igniting a cycle of retaliatory strikes that has progressively destabilized the broader Middle East. Tehran subsequently struck Israeli targets and attacked nations hosting American military assets, while also moving to disrupt commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint through which a significant portion of global energy supplies transits daily.
A ceasefire eventually came into force, but diplomatic negotiations toward a comprehensive and lasting settlement remain unresolved — and with Saturday's developments, increasingly precarious.
