Qatar, Kuwait Support U.S.-Iran Deal as Talks Near Breakthrough

(MENAFN) Qatar and Kuwait voiced unified backing Saturday for the ongoing US-Iran nuclear negotiations, expressing hope that Washington and Tehran will reach a formal agreement in the near term, the Qatari Foreign Ministry said.

The show of Gulf solidarity came during a phone call between Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah, in which both sides reviewed the latest developments in the diplomatic process between the two countries.

"Both sides affirmed their full support for the ongoing commendable efforts to address all pending issues through dialogue and peaceful means," the Qatari Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The call reflects growing regional momentum behind a negotiated settlement, as Gulf states — long wary of the consequences of a military confrontation between Washington and Tehran — have intensified their diplomatic engagement. Qatar, which has previously deployed a negotiating team to Tehran in coordination with the United States, has emerged as a key back-channel broker in the talks.

The statement offered no further specifics on the content of the discussions or the current state of the negotiations.
